Pinehurst golf vacations are spectacular! With its strong Scottish heritage, it’s little wonder that Pinehurst is great for golf. The country that is said to have invented golf also provided the designer of the first four major Pinehurst golf courses, Donald Ross, and the Scots feel that this part of North Carolina is home from home.
Little wonder, since Pinehurst has a total of eight top class courses, and for a small village of around 10,000 population, this is exceptional. The village, or realistically it should be referred to as a small town, also has a bit of golfing history. This is where Ben Hogan won his first professional competition and Pinehurst ‘Old Town’ is late nineteenth century.
Pinehurst Offers More Than Just Golf
So it’s not just the golf that brings visitors to Pinehurst. Many of the cottages have been faithfully restored and maintained in their original state and while Pinehurst did not exist prior to 1895, it retains some that early American atmosphere. The first golf course opened in 1898, only three years after the first stake was driven into the soil that was to be the site of Pinehurst.
The golfing area is known as the Sandhills, and it contains over 40 golf courses within a 15 mile radius. There are also a few vacation resorts which cater for families, but while Pinehurst is great for golfers, it is not Disneyland! It can provide spas for the kids, and fishing, a bowling alley, go-karting and the like, but there’s not a lot more. If your family is happy with that kind of thing, then great, but if they want all the fun of the fair, a beach or noisy discos, then Pinehurst will not be to their liking.
However, if your whole family enjoys golf, they will love Pinehurst. There are special Family Fairway deals and family golf tuition. The food is excellent and very international, with authentic Japanese, Mexican and Italian foods. If you must have the bright lights then Myrtle Beach is only a short cab ride away. That could solve the teen problem!
Try a Pinehurst Golf School to Improve Your Game
There are several golf packages available at Pinehurst and there are also golf schools available that would make a good basis for a golf vacation. Spend your vacation improving your game rather than just playing and continuing all your old faults. Many golfers spend a vacation at a golf school or academy, and there are a few at Pinehurst, such as the Pinehurst Golf Academy and the Golf Advantage School.
An ideal way out of the teenage entertainment problem at Pinehurst would be to use it as a base and travel to Myrtle Beach to take advantage of everything it has to offer, from great beach entertainment, water sports and fabulous night life. It’s only a short ride away and many people travel between the two.
Whatever you decide, there is no doubt that Pinehurst golf vacations are great for serious golfers, and if combined with a few courses at one of the golf schools, can make a massive difference to your game. If your family enjoys playing golf, take them on a Pinehurst golf vacation. It will be a special treat for them and they will love it.
